Shannon Day DUI Arrest

A 37-year-old Virginia woman is facing charges for a crash that left her passenger dead, authorities said.

Shannon P. Day, of Sumerduck, was driving under the influence at the time of the Shipps Tore Road crash in Fauquier County on Saturday, March 2 at 10:25 p.m., Virginia State Police said.

Day was in a 2018 Ford Explorer going west on Route 637 when she failed to maneuver a curve ran off the right side of the roadway and collided with a tree, police said.

Day suffered minor injuries in the crash and refused treatment. Her passenger, Claire E. Caruso, 50, of Charlottesville, died at the scene of the crash due to her injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts.

Day was arrested and charged with one count of driving under the influence: involuntary manslaughter, one count of driving under the influence, one count of reckless driving: failure to maintain proper control, and one count of open container. She was transported to the Fauquier Adult Detention Center, where she is being held without bond.
